The Systematic Disregard of Native American Religious Freedom, How We Got Here, and How We Can Move Forward

Hello! My name is Mea, and I am a senior in the Class of 2017 at BASIS Oro Valley. Over the next three months, I'll be learning about the interaction between the federal government with Native American tribes within the United States with regards to respecting religious freedom. I'll be looking at how since the birth of the United States legislation and court cases have shaped the treatment of Native Americans and the respect of their religious traditions and sacred lands. My end goal is to come up with ways to enhance legislation in order to better ensure equal protection of religious freedoms for American Indian tribes.
